1 year later…

It’s been a year since I opened this wordpress account and so far I haven’t started it off very well. I keep updating anyone who reads it on little things. If you read them, wow thank you. I find myself bored when re-reading them.
Anyway. A year later, eh?

I’ve started my second term of my second year of uni.
I’ve applied for 2 work placements which I will do next year instead of completing my 3rd and final year of uni for the time being. Apparently, I have a phone interview at some point this month with one of them, so I’m waiting to hear back on more information about that.
My Business Plan that I worked on with a couple of guys received 80%! Now we just want to quit uni and start our business up, ha! Also, in the near future I will be lighting up parts of Penarth Marine to celebrate 150 years of the area and the fact that 2015 is the International Year of Light. Pretty excited for that but have no idea how I am going to fit that into my insane schedule!
February is going to be a busy month, Scotland weekend trip closely followed by a trip to Czech Republic looks like it’ll be happening. By closely followed, I mean the next day…
Busy busy busy but it’ll be so worth it. Just need to focus and start this assignment I’ve been staring at all night. Damn you wordpress, stop distracting me….

Little Update.

Hey guys,
Once again it’s been awhile since my last post. Quite a lot has happened, well I say a lot. A big opportunity for me has risen which I grabbed with both hands without needing to think about it.
Few days ago, I had an email from my course leader at university inviting me to jump to BSc Lighting Design & Technology second year instead of carrying on with the Foundation Degree I was doing in Sound, Lighting and Live Events Technology. Of course I couldn’t say no? The plan was to join that course in my 3rd year which meant only 1 year focusing around lighting. Now I get to do 2 years lighting and forget about the other things I really, deep down didn’t want too. Besides the video modules, they were my second best interest on the course.

Anyway, I would be stupid to turn it down and I’m hoping by Tuesday/Wednesday, my transfer form will be handed into the university where it becomes official. I still do not believe it and do not understand why me? I guess I’ve done better than I originally think like my parents keep telling me. I’m not complaining though and will probably say thank you over and over again when I first see Stuart, the course leader.

Because I quickly mentioned video, I have a video I want to show you guys. I edited it as part of one of my module assignments. We had to get into groups within the class and work on a 5 minute short film. Out of the 3 groups, my group was the only one to make a short film, the other two did a documentary/study film if that makes any sense? Considering it was my first time editing any video, I am really pleased with it. The rest of the group loved it too! Or so they told me.
Hopefully you like it too.

Fame the Musical – Bridgend College.

Between the 2nd June and 13th June, I went back into college to work on the End Of The Year Show – Fame the Musical. I was the Lighting Programmer and Operator. The two weeks flew by and it was such, great fun working with the college kids. I had worked with them before on their Dance Show which was only for one day but spending the two weeks with them was fun. It’s sad only now getting to know them when this was their final year at college. Now they’re moving onto bigger and better things and I wish them all the luck, they have some talent that I wish I had. For the others, well they have another year and will probably work with them again in my second year which will be my final one in Bridgend College. I look forward to it as well.
I’ve managed to get hold of a couple of photos of full dress rehearsals. Credit goes to Jc-Lee Photography. There are many more, not just these two so please click on his FaceBook page and look through. There are also other photos from other productions that other classes have done at the college.

What Can I Use This For?

I’m determined to start using this blog properly. By that, I don’t know where to start or how I should go about it but I feel as though it’s a waste when I could be using it for something useful. I was thinking about the shows within and outside university I have helped with. Tell you about my experience and what I learnt from it. Also what could be there for me in the future. I could start off doing that and hope I can carry on with it.

Motivated.

With my first year of uni closing in, I have a free summer ahead of me where I’m wanting to fill it up before the stress starts all over again in September. I have part time work but at the same time I want to be able to get some work placement with either a production team with lighting and/or video.
In the mean time, after watching a couple of videos, it has inspired me to design a lighting rig/show/intro for the new Ice Arena Wales. I want to work on it over the summer, just to challenge myself and learn new skills to hopefully help towards a job at some sort.

One video that has inspired me:

I don’t know how or where to start working on this, but I will!

Also, I’ve been wanting to do something crazy and raise money for charity. Speaking to a friend/colleague of mine who wants to do the same thing and decided that Ty Hafan and Cancer Research UK will be our chosen charities. There a few things already written down what we want to do, I’m hoping to be able to keep doing these things and raise a lot of money for the two charities. If there are any suggestions, then please let me know. I’m up for doing something crazy, I’ve already skydived and planning to ice skate a marathon. Walk up an old volcano in North Wales, do a midnight trek around Snowdon. You know, not just a run. Or a simple walk. I want to be able to challenge myself. I’m open to ideas, let me know!

Procrastination

I become an expert when it comes to attempting the boring things like reports and assignments for university. I’ve done the fun stuff of editing a 5 minute short for one of the modules. Working out and noting down problems and question answers for Electrical Principle with a class mate.
Now writing about it all with a word count limit isn’t my kinda thing. I’m not exactly good with words and when I have the internet at my finger tips, my mind slowly but surely gravitate towards other things like refreshing Twitter and Facebook. Going onto YouTube and suddenly have an hour go by because of cat videos and ‘oh my good look at this! Then this! Then this! Then this!’ Of course, after being amused and crying with laughter, not sharing the links on Twitter and Facebook would be rude. Then it starts all over again with the refreshing…..
Wow, 8:10pm already?! I guess I need to start on this report at some point. Maybe right after this Just Jumpy the dog video on YouTube……

Finally seeing Wicked!

Finally seeing Wicked!

I’ve been wanting to watch it for awhile now.
I’ve stared in awe at the theatre in London when I’ve travelled there but never had the opportunity to watch it. So when I heard it was coming to the Welsh Millennium Centre I thought I couldn’t pass on the chance. With recent family health issues, buying tickets for me and my parents had the risks of not being able to attend. I knew several people who had been or will be going to watch it and the reviews and excitement made me super jealous. Until my friend, Heather came to my rescue. She had recently seen it with our friend Sarah for her birthday. She loved it so much so that is willing to watch it again with me!
Today I received a text saying we’re going on the 9th April! Cannot bloody wait, even to the point I’ve already got my outfit together. I sucks knowing I won’t be seeing it with my parents. Every musical I have seen have been with them so it’ll be a bit weird but they’re OK with it. Besides, we have Lion King to look forward too in the new year.

Photo not my own, unsure of whose it is. Sorry!

Happy Mother’s Day.

Happy Mother’s Day to all Mothers out there.

Just want to say I am super proud of my Mum these last 4/5 months with what she has been through. Crazy to think it’s been that long already, seems like yesterday she told me the news she had skin cancer. Now she’s on the verge of being completely healed from her second surgery. Just waiting on that now before having her 5 week radiotherapy treatment. Then, it’ll all be over!
My presents to her was a £30 gift card to Marks and Spencer and three tickets to see Lion King at the Welsh Millennium Centre on her birthday, 1st January.
